SPRINGFIELD TO RENOVATE AND EXPAND SCHOO HALL INTO STATE-OF-THE-ART SCIENCE CENTER The earth moved at Springfield College May 19 as Springfield College 's President Richard B. Flynn and Chair of the Board of Trustees James E. Walsh turned the first shovel for the major renovation and expansion of Schoo Hall into a state-of-the-art science teaching facility. Read more.

NEIL J. NICOLL G'73  APPOINTED AS YMCA OF THE USA 'S PRESIDENT AND CEO  Neil J. Nicoll G'73 has been appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of YMCA of the USA (Y-USA), the national resource office serving 2,594 YMCAs throughout the United States . In accepting the position, Nicoll, 59, will step down as President and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Seattle, a post he has held since 1992. Nicoll becomes the 13th leader of Y-USA and will take office officially on June 26. Nicoll received his master's degree in education from Springfield College . Read more.

MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD FINISHES SIXTH AT ECAC DIVISION III CHAMPIONSHIPS Sophomore Mike Miller (decathlon), and juniors Alex Kampersal (shot put) and Cameron Turchetti (javelin) qualified for the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships (May 25) as the Pride finished sixth with a total of 33 points out of 54 scoring teams at the Springfield College hosted event. WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD FINISHES TIED FOR 11th AT ECAC DIVISION III CHAMPIONSHIPS First-year Kelsey Bishop (hammer throw) and Silvienne Krosendijk (long jump) each qualified for the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships (May 25) as the Pride finished in a tie for 11th with 25 points out of 47 scoring teams at the Springfield College hosted event. MEN'S LACROSSE WINS FOURTH STRAIGHT PILGRIM LEAGUE TITLE, 12-11, OVER WNEC IN DOUBLE OVERTIME First-year attackman Jake Beebe scored six goals, including the game-winner with just 26 seconds left in double overtime, as the Pride defeated top-seeded and host Western New England College (WNEC), 12-11, on May 6. For SC, it was its fourth consecutive Pilgrim League Tournament crown and the Pride played its way into its 11th NCAA Tournament berth. Read more.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE WINS SECOND STRAIGHT NEWMAC TITLE, 15-11, OVER WHEATON COLLEGE Senior midfielder Holly Carmody netted five goals and assisted on another score as the top-seeded Pride defeated No. 2 Wheaton College, 15-11, on SC's Benedum Field for the Pride's second consecutive NEWMAC Tournament Title and NCAA Division III Tournament berth. BAGIEREK, FUMICELLO, AND JOHANSSON NAMED TO NFCA SOFTBALL ALL-REGION TEAMS Senior designated player Sarah Bagierek was named a National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) First-Team All-Region selection, as sophomore second baseman Denise Fumicello and senior catcher Amanda Johansson were both named to the Second-Team. TAYLOR BROWN AND CHRIS SHARPE NAMED NEILA DIVISION III ALL-NEW ENGLAND SECOND TEAM Senior attackman Taylor Brown and sophomore long-stick midfielder Chris Sharpe were both named to the 2006 New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) Division III All-New England Men's Lacrosse Second-Team. HOLLY CARMODY NAMED NEWMAC PLAYER OF THE YEAR; KATIE HAWKE NAMED COACH OF THE YEAR Senior midfielder Holly Carmody was named the 2006 NEWMAC Player of the Year in women's lacrosse, as Head Coach Katie Hawke was named the conference's Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season.  Read more.

A one-day seminar entitled "Ethics and Special Populations: Substance Abuse, Mental Health, and Rehabilitation Counseling," will be held Friday, June 2, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Cheney Hall. The seminar will explore ethical issues in substance abuse, mental health, and rehabilitation counseling. The fee for this event is $65 for professionals and $30 for students.
