BLAKES AWARD $2 MILLION TO LEADERSHIP FOR THE 21ST CENTURY CAMPAIGN: BUILDING TO BE RENAMED HERBERT P. BLAKE HALL Springfield College announced that S. Prestley Blake and Helen Davis Blake will contribute $2 million to support the college through its fundraising campaign, and that the college will change the name of Wilbraham Hall to Herbert P. Blake Hall in honor of S. Prestley Blake's late father. Read more.
EXHIBITIONS, ADVENTURE FILM, AUTHOR'S READING, THEATRE, CONCERTS FREE THIS FALL An exhibition of children's art from war-torn Darfur, a festival of adventure film, and a poet's readings from her newly published book accompanied by specially composed music are among highlights of Springfield College's fall William Simpson Fine Arts Series of visual and performing arts events open to the public. 97th SPRINGFIELD COLLEGE GYMNASTICS FEATURES "ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT" Springfield College gymnasts presented the 97th annual Springfield College Gymnastics Exhibition Show Oct. 13 and 14, in Blake Arena. The show presented a gymnastic interpretation of "Entertainment Tonight," the popular television entertainment newsmagazine. Read more.

J. Taber Bolden G'53, who served Springfield College as a corporator, trustee emeritus, chair and vice chair of the student affairs committee, died September 16, 2006.

FOOTBALL DEFEATS SUNY BROCKPORT, 27-3 Junior quarterback Chris Sharpe scores all four Pride touchdowns as SC runs away with the Homecoming Day game, 27-3, moving to a perfect 6-0 on the season; the Pride defense forces four Golden Eagle turnovers as junior cornerback Paul Zalenski picks off two passes and is named Empire 8 Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week. WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL ROLLS PAST MOUNT HOLYOKE COLLEGE, 3-0; NOTCHES 20TH WIN OF 2006 Pride senior outside hitter Nicole Curtin records 10 kills, a season-high .625 hitting percentage, and five service aces as SC improves to 20-6 this season; the victory marks the 15th consecutive 20-win season under the direction of head coach Joel Dearing. FIELD HOCKEY EDGES MOUNT HOLYOKE COLLEGE, 1-0 SC junior forward Brittany Veazie's 17th-minute score (16:41) holds up, as the Pride wins its sixth straight and improves to a perfect 7-0 in NEWMAC play; Veazie has 12 goals and four game-winners this season. Read more.
WOMEN'S SOCCER OVERPOWERS MOUNT HOLYOKE COLLEGE, 5-0 Pride sophomore midfielder Lauren Peltier scores a goal and adds an assist as SC dominates the Lyons to improve to 9-4 overall and 5-2 in NEWMAC action; sophomore forward Nicole Hanewich scores her team-leading sixth goal in the win. Read more.
CRAIG POISSON AND KELLY HART PROMOTED In an announcement made by Springfield College's Director of Athletics, Dr. Cathie Schweitzer, on Oct. 11, Dr. Craig Poisson and Dr. Kelly Hart have both been promoted within SC's Athletics Department. Read more.
