SPRINGFIELD COLLEGE HOSTS THE 2007 NCAA DIVISION III WOMEN'S BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP MARCH 16-17  Tickets to Springfield College, the final destination of the 2007 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship, have been punched. The four teams coming to town to play in the "final four" contests include #6-ranked NYU of Manhattan, #9-ranked DePauw University of Greencastle, Indiana, #10-ranked University of Mary Washington of Fredericksburg, Virginia, and #11-ranked Washington University of St. Louis, Missouri. SPRINGFIELD COLLEGE, HOLYOKE COMMUNITY COLLEGE TO OFFER JOINT ADMISSIONS Springfield College and Holyoke Community College (HCC) will jointly admit qualified students for a new program that applies HCC associate's degree credits toward a bachelor's degree at Springfield College. The first class in the new program will enter HCC this fall. Read more.


OBITUARIES

Cleveland E. Dodge Jr.
Cleveland E. Dodge Jr. H'96, Springfield College trustee emeritus, died Jan. 28, 2007. Dodge was a member of the College's board of trustees from 1976 to 1994, at which time he was designated an emeritus trustee. He served on the buildings and grounds committee, the business affairs committee, the investment committee, and the institutional advancement committee. Read more.

Spring 2007 Athletics Schedule

WOMEN'S LACROSSE WINS 2007 SEASON OPENER OVER CURRY, 12-6 Senior Rachel Lampros scored five goals and added one assist in leading the Springfield College women's lacrosse team to a 12-6 victory over Curry College Sunday, March 11, in Wellington, Fla. It was the 2007 opener for the Pride. Read more.

SOFTBALL EDGES UW-LA CROSSE, 2-1, BUT FALLS TO DEFIANCE, 8-7, IN FLORIDA Springfield College junior righthander Stephanie Blackman (Stamford, Conn.) hurled a complete game, allowing just one hit and one run as the Pride defeated the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Eagles March 13 at Osceola Field in Kissimmee, Fla., 2-1. WILLIAM PATERSON SCORES TWICE IN THE NINTH TO EDGE BASEBALL, 10-9 Two runs in the bottom of the ninth helped lift the William Paterson University baseball team (2-2-1) to a 10-9 victory against Springfield College (0-3) March 12 at the Greater Phoenix (Ariz.) Invitational. Read more.

GAETA FINISHES FIFTH AT NCAA WRESTLING NATIONALS, BECOMES FOUR-TIME ALL-AMERICAN; TEAM FINISHES IN TIE FOR 28th Senior Mike Gaeta of Springfield College capped off a spectacular career by finishing fifth at the NCAA Division III National Wrestling Championships March 3 at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. As a team, Springfield finished in a tie for 28th (of 50 teams) with 12.5 points. Read more.

MEN'S GYMNASTICS SPLITS IN LAST HOME MEET, DEFEATING MIT, LOSING TO WILLIAM AND MARY Freshman Derek Gygax captured the All-Around in leading his William & Mary men's gymnastics team to a pair of victories in a tri-meet versus Springfield College and MIT March 11 at SC's Blake Arena. William & Mary finished with a score of 203.550, while Springfield placed second at 186.100, and MIT third at 182.450. Read more.

UGUCCIONI COMPETES AT NCAA DIVISION III TRACK AND FIELD NATIONALS Dominic Uguccioni, a junior from Springfield College, competed in the 2007 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Ind., the weekend of March 10. Read more.

PRICE BECOMES THREE-TIME ALL-AMERICAN AT NCAA WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS Sophomore Moira Price headlined the Springfield College contingent at the NCAA Division III Women's Swimming & Diving Championships at the University of Houston's Campus Recreational, Fitness, and Wellness Center March 8-10. She was one of six Springfield College competitors. Read more.

March 15, Baltimore, Md. AAHPERD Convention Social for SC alumni from 7-9 p.m. at the Renaissance Inner Harbor Hotel.  The social is sponsored by the Baltimore/Washington Alumni Association, and hosted by Dr. William J. Considine, dean of the School of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation.

March 22, Hyannis, Mass. The Massachusetts Secondary Schools Athletic Directors Association convention reception, at Sheraton Four Points Resort, at noon.

April 1, Boston The Eastern Massachusetts Alumni Association hosts its annual event prior to Boston Celtics vs. Cleveland Cavaliers basketball.

April 13-14, Springfield, Mass. Leadership Training Conference Reunion

April 20, Minneapolis, Minn. Social at the National Intramural-Recreation Sports Association convention. Hosted by Roger Moffat '71, Stacey Hall '91, Michael Gallagher '92, and Springfield College Director of Campus Recreation David Hall.
