Gymnast Andy Kelly Named All-ECAC at the EIGL's

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – April 1, 2007Andy Kelly of the Springfield College men’s gymnastics team placed 4th in the parallel bars at the ECAC-EIGL Championships at Temple University earlier today.

A sophomore from Marstons Mills, Mass., Kelly scored 8.150 points. By finishing fourth, he was named All-ECAC.

Kelly was not the only gymnast competing in the individual events for Springfield. Junior JJ Ferreira (Naugatuck, Conn.) placed 10th in the floor exercise with a score of 8.000.

The host team, Temple, wound up winning the team event on Saturday night (March 31), capturing its first EIGL Championship since 2003. The Owls came up with 208.400 points. Springfield placed 6th of eight teams with 182.000 points.

Placing second was Illinois-Chicago (202.700), followed by Army (200.300), Navy (198.750), William & Mary (197.800), Springfield (182.000), MIT (176.150), and James Madison (161.000).

Temple junior Luke Vexler won the all-around, leading a 1-2-3 sweep for the Owls overall.
