Leah Hettrick Named First Team All-NEWMAC; Reves and Vaccari Land On Second Team

WORCESTER, Mass., November 8, 2005 - Springfield College junior libero Leah Hettrick (Meriden, Conn.) has been selected to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Conference First-Team, as announced after today's annual postseason coaches meeting on the campus of WPI. Seniors Ashley Reves (Orchard Park, N.Y.) and Alesia Vaccari (Winsted, Conn.) were each named to the All-Conference Second-Team.

Hettrick, a graduate of Maloney High School, finished the season second in the NEWMAC in digs per game (6.32), compiling a total of 752 on the year. After just three seasons at SC, the tri-captain has accumulated a career total of exactly 1,800 digs. Hettrick needs just 101 more digs to pass former Pride standout, Robin Chase (1997-2000), for first all-time in school history at SC. This is the third-straight year that Hettrick has been honored at the annual postseason meeting, as the libero was named NEWMAC Rookie of the Year in '03, and last season, Hettrick garnered a spot on the All-Conference team.

Reves, who hails from Orchard Park, N.Y., has finished her four-year career at SC with 1,604 kills, good for second all-time in the program's history. Reves is ranked fifth in the NEWMAC this season in kills per game (3.63, 425 total) and sixth in overall hitting percentage (.245). The senior tri-captain was named to an impressive five All-Tournament Teams this season (SC Invitational, Johnson & Wales, Bates, MIT, Hall of Fame).

Vaccari, who resides in Winsted, Conn., has ended her illustrious career at SC with a total of 5,196 assists, good for first all-time. The setter is ranked fourth in the NEWMAC in assists this season (10.32/game, 1,228 total). In her senior season, the tri-captain was named to the Bates and Volleyball Hall of Fame Invitational All-Tournament Teams.
