Women's Cross Country Takes Third At Amherst Invitational
AMHERST, Mass., September 6, 2003- Springfield College senior All-American
Marisa Clapp (Charlton, Mass.) finished first out of 45 runners with a time of 18:41 at the Amherst College Invitational on Saturday.
SC placed third in the field of five with an overall team score of 66. Sophomore
Meghan Young (Hurley, N.Y.) ran to ninth place with a time of 20:09.
On the men's side, sophomore
Patrick Byrne (Tolland, Conn.) finished 20th (29:05) as the Pride finished fifth overall. Sophomore
Chris Dietz (Guilford, Conn.) and freshman
Patrick Hepper (Bernardsville, N.J.) were close behind Byrne with times of 29:06.
The SC women compete at Middlebury College this Saturday. The men are at the UMass-Dartmouth Inviational on Saturday, September 20.

Jim Pennington enters his 26th season as head coach of the Springfield College women’s cross country and track and field teams in 2008-2009. Under Pennington’s direction, the Pride has recorded seven top 20 finishes at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and seven top 15 finishes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
