Josh Spencer has been chosen Springfield College's Male Maroon Club Athlete of the Week (Mar.17) after leading the men's gymnastics team to a historic victory over Army on Sunday afternoon.
The Pride finished first of three collegiate teams in a tri-meet in Blake Arena with a score of 338.300. Springfield was followed by Army at 336.400 and MIT at 325.300.
It is the first time in at least 26 years that the Springfield men’s gymnastics team has beaten Army. Army had beaten Springfield twice in earlier meets this season.
Spencer, a native of Las Vegas, Nev. finished second in the high bar (14.200), fourth in the vault (15.150), and tied for fifth in the pommel horse (13.400) at the meet.
Up next, Springfield will compete in the New England’s at MIT this Saturday (March 22.). On March 28-29, Springfield will host the USAG Nationals right back at Blake Arena.
