Box Score

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – October 3, 2007 -- Junior forward Jon Nutting (Rockland, Mass.) netted the game-tying goal in the 77th minute as the Bridgewater State College Bears and the Springfield College Pride battled to a 1-1 double overtime tie this afternoon in Bridgewater.

Off a long volley from junior defender Jon Machado (Weymouth, Mass.), Nutting retrieved the ball to the left of the goal and drilled a shot that caromed off the bottom of the crossbar and into the back-right corner of the goal. For Nutting it was his team-leading fourth goal of the season. Machado picked up the assist on the goal, his team-leading fourth of the season.

Springfield opened the scoring in just the seventh minute of play on a goal by sophomore forward John Plourd (Southampton, Mass.). Junior midfielder Jeremy Scheer (Enfield, Conn.) picked up the assist on the goal as it was his pass which sent Plourd in alone on goal.

Sophomore keeper Ryan Seifert (Ludlow, Mass.) was tremendous in goal for BSC as he turned aside 14 shots, including three huge saves in the final two minutes of the second overtime period. Springfield senior netminder BJ Sturdivant (Bear, Del.) made 8 saves between the pipes for the Pride.

Bridgewater dominated play in the first overtime as the Bears outshot the Pride, 3-0, and held a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks. It was Springfield, however, who carried play in the second OT, taking advantage of the Bears who were a man down.

There were 11 cards handed out in the game. Six, including a red, were issued to Bridgewater, and four yellow cards were handed out to Springfield.

Bridgewater State (4-5-2) will be back in action on Saturday afternoon at 1 pm as the Bears host a key MASCAC game with the Owls of Westfield State College. Springfield (4-6-1) travels to NEWMAC rival Clark University on Saturday for a 2:30 pm match.
