

The Pride won the match, 25-30, 30-13, 30-19, 30-20, to improve to 18-6 overall and 4-2 in the conference. The Beavers dropped to 8-9 overall and 2-4 in the NEWMAC.
Junior Aylene Ilkson (Baldwin, N.Y.), who was chosen as the NEWMAC Player of the Week this week, led Springfield with 14 kills and 28 digs in the match. First-year Bethany Stosz (Amherst, Mass.) hammered out 12 kills while Heidi Yohe (Deer Park, Wash.) added 11 kills.
The opening game victory was Babson’s first against Springfield since the inception of the NEWMAC back in 1998.
Springfield has a week off and will not return to action until next Tuesday when the Pride hosts Mount Holyoke in Blake Arena at 7:00 p.m.
Joel Dearing will enter his 21st season as head women's volleyball coach at his alma mater in the fall of 2009. Dearing is regarded nationally as one of the sport’s best coaches and he has the resume to prove it. Dearing ranks in the top-10 in Division III history with a 670-298 (.692) overall mark in 28 seasons as a women’s volleyball coach.
