SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- November 5, 2007 -By virture of an at-large bid, the Springfield College women's soccer team has earned the right to host a first round game in the 2007 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship. The Pride will host Husson College at Brock-Affleck Field at the Irv Schmid Sports Complex on Wednesday, November 7 at 1:00 pm.
This marks the second time in three years that the Pride will head to the NCAA Tournament. In 2005, the Pride advanced to the NCAA Tournament after winning the NEWMAC conference tournament. The Pride made it to the second round of the NCAA Championship before falling to Oneonta State.
The Pride, who finished the regular season with a 15-2-1 record, earned one of 22 at-large berths in the 60-team field. Despite being upset in the first round of New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Tournament, the Pride's resume of just two losses, both against teams ranked in the top 10 in the country, was strong enough for a bid.
Husson enters the tournament with a 13-7-1 record, and earned an automatic entrance into the tournament after winning the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Tournament over the weekend.
This marks the first-ever matchup between the two schools.
The winner of the game will go on to play at Williams (16-0-0) on Saturday, November 10. One of the Pride's two losses on the year came early in the season at Williams on Sept. 12.
