Football Travels To Hartwick For An Empire 8 Showdown

Game #9: Saturday, November 5, 2005 - Springfield College Pride at Hartwick College Hawks - Elmore Field - 1:00 p.m.

The Series: First game was a year ago when SC won, 42-14, in Springfield.

SC’s Last Game: The Pride came back from a 28-7 third quarter defecit against #16 Ithaca and closed to within 35-28 with 2:43 to play, but was unable to score the equalizing TD in the final minutes.

Empire 8 Standings: 1. Ithaca (7-1, 5-0), Alfred (7-1, 4-0), 3. St. John Fosher (8-1. 4-1), 4. Utica (4-4, 1-3), Norwich (3-5, 1-3); 6. SC (2-6, 0-4), Hartwick (4-4, 0-4).

Hartwick Scouting Report: Look for a wide-open game ... the Hawks average 37.5 points per game, but yield 35.9 ... QB Jason Boltus averages 275.2 yds passing and has 25 TD passes ... Matt Willis has 53 receptions, 17 for TDs ... Lindy Crea rushes for 114.5 yds per game and has scored 12 TDs ... defensively, Frank Vozos and Paul DeSapio have 57 and 55 tackles, respectively ...Hartwick has beaten Husson, Becker, Mt. Ida and Endicott and has put up some big numbers in losses against the Empire 8’s top three teams: Ithaca 51-49, Alfred 49-19, St. John Fisher 70-41.

SC’s Offense vs. IC: Halfback Aland Joseph (Stamford, CT) had a 65 yd TD run, the second longest of the year for SC ... Damian Gunningsmith (Trumansburg, NY) blocked well at wide receiver and Dan Tanguay (S. Portland, ME) had another consistent game on the offensive line.

SC’s Defense vs. IC: Once again, LB Andrew Madigan (New Britain, CT) piled up the tackles with 14 ... SS Kevin Fessette (Plattsburg, NY) had 12 ... also playing well on defense were LB R.J. Perkins (Bridgeport, CT) and DT Pat Shortell (W. Hartford, CT).

SC’s Special Teams vs. IC: Freshman Nick Ford (Laconia, NH) returned six kickoffs for 19.5 yds per return.

Injury Report: FB Andrew Jackson (Pennsville, NJ) is expected back after a hamstring injury ... Jackson had scored seven TDs in two previous two games before the midweek injury last week ... DE Mike Nicol (Hopkinton, MA) questionalbe, ankle ... DE Steve Brutus (Stamford, CT), doubtful, ankle ... LB Tim McGonagle (Hanson, MA), questionable, hand ...SS Eric Arndt (Waldwick, NJ), knee, doubtful.

Head Coach Mike DeLong Michael C. “Mike” DeLong ’74 enters his 27th season as a head football coach in the fall of 2008. He enters his 25th year at Springfield College alone. For the past 24 years (1984 through 2007, inclusive), he has been the head coach at Springfield, his alma mater. Mike had also been the head coach at Maine Maritime in Castine, Maine in 1979 and 1980. Read more.
