No. 13 Wrestling Finishes Fifth At Budd Whitehill National Duals

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa., - Springfield College senior
Tom Medonis (Wethersfield, Conn.) registered a 5-0 record, while junior
Scott Fay (Danbury, Conn.) went 4-0 to lead the No. 13 Pride to fifth place at the Budd Whitehill Dual Championship, hosted by Lycoming (Pa.) College.
No. 5 Wisconsin Lacrosse won the meet, defeating No. 9 Ithaca in the championship match. No. 10 College of New Jersey finished third, followed by No. 14 Norwich and Springfield to round out the top-five of the 20-team field that included 13 nationally-ranked squads.
On Friday, Springfield defeated No. 30 Heidelberg (Pa.), 24-10 and Scranton, 30-12, before falling to Ithaca, 23-12. SC bounced back on Saturday with three-straight wins over No. 27 Olivet (Mich.), 19-15, No. 17 Loras (Iowa), 25-20 and No. 18 Lycoming, 21-20 to improve its dual-meet record to 9-1 this winter.
The top-ranked wrestler in New England in the 197-pound weight class, Medonis improved his season record to 24-4 with his five victories. Fay, ranked No. 8 in the nation and No. 1 in New England at 285, ran his record to 22-3, including a 7-0 record in dual competition.
Freshman
Mike Gaeta (Manalapan, N.J.), ranked No. 8 nationally at 141-pounds, and junior
Brian Viglione (Chelmsford, Mass.), the top 174-pounder in New England, each compiled a 4-1 record on the weekend. Viglione has a 27-4 record this season, while Gaeta is 19-9.

Under his tutelage, the Springfield College wrestling program has posted a 265-141-6 overall dual-meet record, good for an outstanding .650 winning percentage.
