Men’s Track & Field Is 24th at New England Championships

BOSTON, February 26, 2005 – Springfield College senior All-American Matt Acciaioli (Warwick, R.I.) finished fifth in the shot put with a throw of 52 feet, 8 3/4 inches to earn All-New England honors at the Open New England Championships on Saturday at Boston University.

The Pride tied for 24th at the meet, which featured Division I, II, and III schools. The University of Rhode Island won the meet with 112 points, followed by UMass-Lowell (73) and Southern Connecticut (65) in a field of 36 scoring teams.

SC also received points from sophomore Alex Kampersal (Natick, Mass.) who finished eight in the shot put (50-8 1/4) and senior All-American Justin Welch (Woburn, Mass.) who was eighth in the high-jump (6-3 1/4).

SC travels to Yale University on Friday, March 4 for the Trinity Last Chance Invitational.
