Three Women Gymnasts Earn All-America Status at NCGA Division III Championships
Complete ResultsWHITEWATER, Wisc., March 25, 2007 – Three individuals representing Springfield College earned All-America status at the NCGA Women’s Gymnastics Championships at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater this past weekend (Mar. 23-24).
Anyone finishing in the Top Six as individuals became a First Team All-American. Anyone finishing seventh to 12th as individuals became a Second Team All-American. The top 14 finishers from Friday night’s competition advanced to compete on Saturday.
Freshman Audrey Lastra (New Milford, Conn.) became a three-time First Team All-American. She finished sixth in the All-Around on Friday night (when that competition was determined) with a score of 37.375. Then on Saturday, she finished third in the balance beam with a score of 9.525. She also finished fifth in the uneven parallel bars with a score of 9.375.
In the vault, sophomore Jackie Mazzola (Framingham, Mass.) finished tied for fifth with a score of 9.475, thus becoming a First Team All-American. Sophomore Kristin Fairburn (Salem, N.H.) finished 11th in the uneven parallel bars with a score of 9.150, thus becoming a Second Team All-American.
Just missing out on All-American status was junior Cara Chadbourne (New Salem, Mass.), who finished 13th in the floor exercise with an 8.800.
Springfield went to Wisconsin-Whitewater with eight competitors. Also competing for SC on Friday night (but not advancing) was freshman Jeanna Bradle (New Milford, Conn.) in the bars, senior Keriann Hart (Hanover, Mass.) and freshman Alex Ploenes (Fletcher, N.C.) in the beam, and senior Heather Tuden (Londonderry, N.H.) in the floor exercise.
