SPRINGFIELD, Mass., June 14, 2006 – Springfield College second-year head coach Katie Hawke has been named the 2006 Division III Berkshire Regional Women’s Lacrosse Coach of the Year, as announced by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA).
In two seasons while directing the Pride women’s lacrosse program, Hawke’s teams have compiled a 24-12 record, which is good for a .667 winning percentage. In those two seasons, Springfield College has also reached the NCAA Division III Women’s Lacrosse Tournament both times, winning the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament each of the past two seasons.
This season, the Pride finished its NEWMAC regular-season with a perfect 6-0 record, as SC won both the regular-season and tournament titles in the conference. In two years at the helm, Hawke’s teams have captured three of a possible four NEWMAC titles, as Hawke has been named the NEWMAC Coach of the Year in her first two seasons as head coach of the Pride.
