



Northampton, Mass. - October 13, 2007 -- After both teams had a scoreless battle for nearly 85 minutes, the Springfield College women's soccer team captured a 1-0 victory over NEWMAC-rival Smith off a penalty kick by Delaney Cantrall (Santa Paula, Calif.) at 84:49.
With the loss, Smith drops to 4-7-1 (3-3-0), while Springfield improves to 12-2-0 (5-1-0) on the season. The Pride is ranked 25th in the country in the latest d3kicks.com poll.
Smith goalkeeper Lauren Bachtel played her first match for the Pioneers since being injured almost a month ago and finished with 15 saves on the day. Springfield keeper Sue Jenny (Agawam, Mass.) had three saves on the match.
Springfield will be back in action on Tuesday, October 15th as it hosts Mount Holyoke at 7:00 pm.
John Gibson, a native of London, England, enters his 12th season as head women's soccer at Springfield College in the fall of 2011. Gibson has led the Pride to the NCAA Tournament in four of the last six years and has established the Pride as one of the top programs in the country. His clubs have registered an impressive a 137-66-17 record.
