SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – May 25, 2007 – Dominic Uguccioni and Kelsey Bishop both finished sixth in their respective hammer throw competitions at the 2007 NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh earlier today. As a result, Uguccioni and Bishop, who both threw career bests, have achieved All-America status.

Uguccioni, a junior from Colrain, Mass., had been seeded 15th entering the competition with his previous best of 175 feet even. But Dominic proceeded to heave the hammer 180 feet, 5 inches at the NCAA’s, which incidentally is about 40 feet better than he threw at any point in his sophomore season just one year ago.

Meanwhile, Bishop, a sophomore from Warwick, R.I., threw the hammer a school-record 171 feet, 4 inches to also finish sixth. Her toss broke the previous school record of 170 feet, 6 inches, which had been set by Ilana Garbowit back in 1999.

Uguccioni and Bishop thus become the 19th and 20th All-Americans that Springfield College has produced this past academic year (all sports). They each give SC three points in the men’s and women’s team competitions at the NCAA’s.

There will be three more individuals competing for Springfield later today. They include senior Alex Kampersal (Natick, Mass.) in the shot put, senior Cameron Turchetti (South Deerfield, Mass.) in the javelin, and freshman Nikki Hay (Norwalk, Conn.) in the triple jump. Kampersal is seeded 3rd, Hay 12th, and Turchetti 15th in their events.
