SPRINGFIELD, Mass., April 15, 2006 – Andrew Malaby and Donny Eckhart of the Springfield College men’s gymnastics team have achieved All-America status at the USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships held at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., this past weekend.

Malaby earned All-America status twice; by placing fifth in the still rings with a score of 8.50, and by placing fifth in the vault with a score of 8.825. Malaby is a senior, who hails from West Warwick, R.I.

Eckhart, a senior from Palmerto, Pa., achieved his All-America honors by placing tied for sixth in the parallel bars with a score of 7.55.

In order to become an All-American, one had to place in the top six among individuals.

Springfield had two others competing in this competition, but each just missed becoming an All-American. Sophomore John (JJ) Ferreira (Naugatuck, Conn.) finished seventh in the floor exercise with a score of 8.05. In the very same event, senior Aric Hines (Greensboro, N.C.) placed eighth with a score of 7.85.

This concludes the men’s gymnastics season, and for that matter, the entire 2005-06 winter varsity sports season at Springfield College.
