WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass., September 26, 2006 - Springfield College junior forward Brittany Veazie (Dexter, Maine) scored her fourth goal of the season, netting the first score against eighth-ranked Williams College of the 2006 season, but it wasn't enough as the No. 13 Pride fell to the host Ephs, 6-2, this evening.
Veazie's goal, assisted by sophomore midfielder Jane Kelleher (Chatham, Mass.), temporarily cut Williams' lead to 3-1 in the second half. The Ephs responded, however, scoring three consecutive goals to make the score 6-1. Kelleher would then tack on her team-leading 10th score of the season for the 6-2 final. Kelleher's goal was assisted by senior forward Christine Gibbins (Eden, N.Y.), her first of the year.
With the loss, SC falls to 6-2 overall on the season as it remains 1-0 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play. Williams College improves its record to a perfect 7-0 on the year, as the Pride did snap Williams' streak of six consecutive shutouts in tonight's contest.
SC will next return to conference action as it travels to Worcester, Mass., to face Clark University on Saturday afternoon, September 30th, in a 1:00 p.m. start. The Pride will then travel to SUNY Cortland on Sunday afternoon, October 1st, for a 1:00 p.m. non-conference start against the fourth-ranked Red Dragons.
