No. 5 Men's Volleyball Sweeps EIVA Hay Match at New Haven, 3-0

WEST HAVEN, Conn., March 8, 2007 - Springfield College sophomore All-American Ryan Fredrickson (Manahawkin, N.J.) totaled a match-high 14 kills and 16.5 points to go along with six digs, three blocks and a service ace as the fifth-ranked Pride cruised past the University of New Haven, 3-0 (30-21, 30-16, 32-30), this evening in an Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Hay Division match at Charger Gymnasium.

SC sophomore All-American Andy Sipe (New Oxford, Pa.) added 10 kills on 15 swings with just two errors for a .533 hitting percentage. The middle blocker also recorded a match-best five blocks. Junior outside hitter Javier Rosario (San Juan, Puerto Rico) led the Pride with seven digs. The victory, its seventh in the past eight matches, improves SC to 15-6 overall on the season and 6-1 in EIVA Hay play.

The Chargers (7-7, 0-4 EIVA Hay) were led by Tommy Musto with 12 kills, three digs, one solo block and 13 points. Drew Kirkeby chipped in with 12 points on 10 kills and three blocks (one solo). Omar Ramirez led all players with nine digs in the affair.

The Pride had the luxury of sending 15 different players into action over the course of the three-game match, as Rosario, freshman outside hitter AJ Nally (Rochester, N.Y.), and freshman middle blocker Bill Yates (Albany, N.Y.) each compiled five kills. Nally also added six digs. Setters Eric Shoemaker (Mount Wolf, Pa.) and Chris Shekell (Rochester, N.Y.) racked up 25 and 14 assists, respectively.

SC is faced with a break in the schedule and will next host New York University (NYU) on Friday evening, March 23rd, in yet another EIVA Hay match-up at 7:00 p.m. in Blake Arena.
