Miller In 13th Place After Opening Day of Decathlon at NCAA Championships

OSHKOSH, Wisc. - May 22, 2008 - Senior Mike Miller sits in 13th place overall at the NCAA Championships in the decathlon event after the first day of competition.

The Storrs, Conn. native compiled 3,133 points to finish 13th out of 17 competitors after the 100 meter dash, long jump, shot put, high jump, and 400 meter dash portion of the event.

Miller opened up the event finishing 13th in the 100 meters (11.89) but his day took a turn for the worse when he pulled his hamstring in the next event, the long jump. Miller pulled it together to record 15th place finish in the long jump with a distance of 19-2. Battling his nagging hamstring, Miller responded with his two best showings of the afternoon as he recorded an eighth-place finish in the shot put from a standing throw with a distance of 38-2 3/4. With his leg all taped up, Miller noched a fifth-place showing in the high jump (6-2 3/4). In his final event of the day, Miller crossed the finish line in the 400 meters in 54.75, which was good enough for 15th.

Miller will complete the decathlon event tommorow in the second day of the NCAA Championships.
