Box Score

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – April 10, 2008 – The Springfield College baseball team used five runs in the bottom of the first inning to propel them to an 8-5 victory over Endicott in an error-filled game this afternoon at Berry-Allen field on the campus of Springfield College.

With the victory, Springfield is now 10-14, while Endicott falls to 12-6.

The Pride batted around in the first inning, scoring five runs, highlighted by a two-RBI single by junior Travis Turgeon (Norwich, Conn.). Also chipping in with two RBI was junior Ryan Tatreau (Greenfield, Mass.).

Junior Drew Michael (Longmeadow, Mass.) led off the bottom of the second with a walk. Michael then advanced to third on a single from Mackie and then scored a run as the shortstop for Endicott air-mailed a ball trying to get senior Ryan Hingston (Windsor, VT) out at first.

The Gulls closed the 6-1 margin to 6-5 in the bottom of the third as Springfield’s starting freshman pitcher Dan Reiser (Sag Harbor, N.Y.) gave up four runs, one earned. Reiser pitched 2 2/3 innnings, giving up one earned run on two hits, while striking out one.

Relieving pitchers Jon Wurster (New Windsor, N.Y.), Mike Searles (East Patchogue) and Mario Piscitelli pitched six plus scoreless innings to end the game for the Pride.

Wurster was the winning pitcher and improves his record to 1-1, while closer Piscitelli recorded his third save of the season.

Springfield College would add two insurance runs as Hingston scored in the eighth on the Gulls' fifth error of the game, and junior Jamie Mackie (Springfield, Mass.) scored as Tatreau batted in his second run of the game. Mackie ended the game 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Tatreau finished 2-for-5 with one run and two RBI.

The Pride's offense was helped by Endicott's six fielding errors, as Mackie and sophomore catcher Rob Malaspina (Woodbury, Conn.) had one RBI each.

The Pride returns to action on Saturday, weather permitting, when it travels for a conference doubleheader to Babson. First pitch is slated for 12:00 noon.
