BABSON PARK, Mass., April 15, 2006 - Springfield College senior Holly Carmody (Wayland, Mass.) scored nine goals and assisted on another score to lead the visiting Pride to a 19-6 victory over host Babson College in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's lacrosse match-up on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, SC remains atop the conference with a record of 8-4 overall and 5-0 in league play as it has now won four consecutive games, while the Beavers fall to 9-5 overall and 3-1 in the NEWMAC.
With the nine-goal performance against Babson, Carmody surpassed former Pride standout, Danica Ansardy (1999-2002), for first on the all-time list at Springfield College in career goals. The senior midfielder, who is already first all-time at SC in career points (203), has now scored a total of 145 goals in her illustrious career.
A goal by Babson sophomore Melissa Martin with 25:14 remaining in the opening half gave the Beavers a 3-1 lead, but the contest would be all SC from that point on. The Pride scored six-straight goals to end the half, and then netted two more early in the second to build a 9-3 advantage. Babson would get three second-half scores from first-year Kate Nichols, but it would not be enough to prevent the 19-6 SC victory.
Carmody led all players with nine goals, while first-year Heather Dobson (Longmeadow, Mass.) added four goals for the Pride. Junior Rachel Lampros (Boxborough, Mass.) netted three scores in the win, and sophomore goalie Kristin Vaccaro (Southington, Conn.) finished with six saves in net.
Playing without three injured starters, including leading scorer Anita Martignetti, Babson was led by Nichols, who finished with three goals. Martin, first-year Lindsay Bucci, and first-year Jess Parker each added one goal apiece, while junior Jennie Williams made eight stops in net.
SC will next look to make it five-in-a-row as it travels to Mount Holyoke College for another NEWMAC tilt on Saturday afternoon, April 22nd, in a 1:00 p.m. start.
