No. 14 Field Hockey Tops Mount Holyoke, 3-0, in NEWMAC Quarterfinals

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – October 27, 2007 –The No. 14th ranked Springfield College field hockey team won its quarterfinal matchup in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Tournament against Mount Holyoke, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon at Stagg Field.

With the win, the fourth-seeded Pride improve to 17-3 on the season while the fifth-seeded Lyons drop to 7-9.

Brittany Veazie (Dexter, Maine) continued her offensive tear as she found the back of the cage twice in the game to increase her yearly goal total to 19. The senior tallied her first goal of the game at the 19:11 mark of the first half to give the Pride a 1-0 advantage.

Emily Murray (Boonton, N.J.) finished a feed from Jane Kelleher (Chatham, Mass.) just over six minutes later as the Pride headed into halftime with a 2-0 lead.

Veazie recorded Springfield's final goal of the game with 26:50 remaining in the contest on an unassisted strike.

Emma Kaplan (Ridgefield, Conn.) made three stops in goal for the Pride in the first half while Julia Kindcade (Durham, N.H.) recorded four saves in the second stanza.

The Pride will square off against the top-seeded Babson Beavers on Saturday afternoon.
