SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – April 14, 2007 – Springfield College head men’s gymnastics coach Stephen Posner received the 2007 College Gymnastics Association Honor Award at the association’s annual awards banquet at Penn State University this past weekend.

The Honor Award is given annually to a member-Coach of 25 years or more. Posner has just completed his 25th year of coaching at Springfield College. The Award reads: “In recognition of his service in coaching and developing gymnastics for 25 years or more. He has gained the respect of his associates in the gymnastics world by his inspiring example and accomplishments.” The recipient is selected each year by the Honor Coach Award Committee by secret ballot. The chairman presents this, the most prestigious of all CGA Awards, at the annual banquet meeting.

Steve Posner is considered one of the most outstanding collegiate gymnastics coaches in the East. In 2006, his team enjoyed another successful season by placing second at the New England Invitational Championships, and sixth at the ECAC/EIGL Championships. This past season, under Posner’s direction, Springfield College won the New England’s, and again finished sixth at the ECAC/EIGL’s.

Posner has coached 123 All-Americans and 17 National Champions. His most recent All-American, freshman Keith Stumpf (Williamsville, N.Y.), finished fourth in the vault at the 2007 USAG’s at the College of William & Mary in late March.

Posner led the Pride to three straight USAG team crowns from 1991 to 1993. He was selected both the USAG and National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches (NACGC) Division II-III Coach of the Year in 1992 and 1993, and earned NCAA Eastern Regional Coach of the Year honors in 2002.

Steve served as the gymnastics chair for the World Maccabiah Games in Israel in 1997. He was also selected to coach the U.S. Maccabiah Team for 2001. He was chairman of the USA Gymnastics Collegiate Committee from 1991 to 1994, and is the current President of that committee. He is also currently a member of the NCAA Gymnastics Rules Committee
