Brown and Sharpe Named to NEILA DIII All-NE Second-Team; Beebe Named Rookie of the Year
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., May 19, 2006 – Springfield College senior attackman Taylor Brown (Portsmouth, R.I.) and sophomore long-stick midfielder Chris Sharpe (Derry, N.H.) have each been named to the 2006 New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) Division III All-New England Men’s Lacrosse Second-Team.
In the same announcement, first-year Jake Beebe (Sudbury, Mass.) has been named the 2006 Division III New England Rookie of the Year.
Brown, a graduate of Governor Dummer Academy, who was named to the Pilgrim Lacrosse League’s All-Conference First-Team for the fourth consecutive season back on May 8th, finished the year ranked tied for second in the league in goals (43), third in total points (58), and tied for tenth in assists (15). Among the Springfield College all-time ranks, the co-captain will go down as one of the most successful attackman in the history of the program, as the Portsmouth, R.I., native finished his illustrious four-year career second in goals scored (160), third in points (273), and fourth in assists (113).
Sharpe, a graduate of Pinkerton Academy and two-sport athlete here at SC (football quarterback), helped anchor the Pride defense which allowed its opponents to score an average of just 9.17 goals per game this year, while scoring at a 12.61 clip per game. Sharpe, a defensive-minded midfielder, finished his sophomore season with four goals, two assists (six points), and 45 ground balls.
Freshman attackman Jake Beebe, a graduate of Lincoln Sudbury Regional, had a tremendous opening season to his young career in a Springfield College uniform, earning NEILA Division III All-New England Rookie of the Year honors. Beebe was second on the team in scoring this year, contributing with 32 goals and 17 assists for 49 total points of offense.
The May 8th Pilgrim Lacrosse League Player of the Week, Beebe led the Pride to its fourth straight Pilgrim League Tournament Championship with six goals and two assists for an impressive eight points in SC’s 12-11 double overtime win at top-seeded Western New England College.
The Pride finished its 2006 season with a 13-5 overall record and 7-1 mark in the regular-season of the Pilgrim League. SC earned its 11th overall NCAA Tournament berth this year by beating the Golden Bears of WNEC in the Pilgrim League Tournament final in double overtime.
