DENTON, Texas, April 10, 2004 - Springfield College senior Tim Goetz (South Plainfield, N.J.) was named the national vault champion and finished fifth in the all-around competition to garner two of the Pride's six All-America honors at the USAG Collegiate Championships hosted by Texas Women's University on Saturday.
Goetz totaled 51.075 points in the all-around on Friday night to earn his first All-America honor of the meet. The top-seven finishers in each individual event in Friday's team competition advanced to Saturday's event finals. SC finished fourth with 202.300 points.
Goetz registered a 9.400 to win the vault, and added a 8.350 on the parallel bars to finish seventh.
Other All-America performances for the Pride included a third-place effort by sophomore Aric Hines (Greensboro, N.C.) on the pommel horse (8.450); a fourth-place finish by freshman Scott Goff (Syracuse, N.Y.) in the floor exercise (8.775); a fifth-place showing by sophomore Shawn Fournier (Lewiston, Maine) in the floor exercise (8.550), and a sixth place performance by junior Nelson Jimenez (Salem, N.H.) on the vault (9.025).
