NCAA BOUND -- Softball Seeded 6th in Plattsburgh, N.Y. Regional; Ticket Prices Announced

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- May 5, 2008 -- The Springfield College softball team has been seeded sixth and will travel to play in the NCAA Division III Regional Tourney in Plattsburgh, N.Y. when it opens tourney play on Thursday (May 8) at Cardinal Park.

The Pride (29-15), winner of 20 of its past 24 games and recently-crowned New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Tourney Champions, will open play against #3-seeded St. John Fisher (24-19) on Thursday at 12 noon in the Regional's second game of the day.

The double-elimination format guarantees that Head Coach Kathy Mangano's troops will also play Friday, if it wins that first game, at 2 pm against the winner of #2-seeded Endicott (38-4) versus #7-seeded Keuka (23-7). If Springfield loses that first game, it would play at 12 noon on Friday. The tourney will continue until a winner is decided either Sunday or Monday (May 11-12).

The seeded teams in this regional include #1 Montclair State (42-4), #2 Endicott (38-4), #3 St. John Fisher (24-19), #4 Cortland State (34-11), #5 Eastern Connecticut State (26-12), #6 Springfield (29-15), and #7 Keuka (23-7).

Tickets for the NCAA Division III Softball Regional Tournament at Plattsburgh State will be sold at the gate of Cardinal Park. Ticket prices for a single session (day) are $5 adult general admission and $2 student, seniors, and children under 12. Tournament passes are $15 adult general admission, and $6 student, seniors, and children under 12.

In its first games played up north following its Florida trip, Springfield split with Eastern Connecticut State in games played at home on March 26. Springfield won the first game, 1-0, while ECSU came back to win the second game, 3-2. Those are the only games Springfield played this season against any potential opponent in this Regional.
