Women's Track and Field Tops WPI and Coast Guard in Tri-Meet
Complete ResultsWorcester, Mass.- April 11, 2008- Sophomore Nikki Hay (Norwalk, CT) won four events to help spark Springfield's first place finish at a tri-meet hosted by WPI this afternoon at Norcross Track. The Pride finished with 217 points while Coast Guard notched 97 and WPI ended the meet with 54.
Hay started off the meet placing first in both the long (16-10) and the triple jump (35-7) and then capped off her day winning both the 100 meter (12.80) and the 200 meter dashes (26.49).
Senior Jenn McBride (Mechanicville, NY) took home first for the Pride in the 400 (59.98) while freshman Lacey Cartier (York, ME) and Alyssa Bringham (Penacook, NH) tallied wins in the 800 (2:20.54) and the 5000 (18:42.40). Senior Ashley Palmer (Holyoke, MA) and sophomore Catherine Croce (Wallkill, NY) also took the top spots in the 100 (16.18) and the 400 meter hurdles (1:08.50).
Palmer leaped to a first place finish in the high jump (4-11.75) while junior Kelsey Bishop (Warwick, RI) was the winner in the hammer throw (153-11). Freshman Katie Bolton (Epping, NH) also finished first in the javelin (111-5).
For the Engineers, senior Amanda Tichy (Norwich, CT) and sophomore Liz Schreiber (Ashfield, MA) each broke a school record while Krista Baker (Medway, MA) won the discus with a toss of 115-1.
Tichy placed first in the pole vault breaking the previous school mark of 9-0.25 which was held by Amanda Ruksznis while Schriber finished third overall with a time of 1:10.91 in the 400 meter hurdles. The previous standard of 1:11.1 was set by Alison Houck in 2003.
Junior Charlotte Delorey (Kalamazoo, MI) paced Coast Guard winning the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 12:55.99. Senior Victoria Stevens (Lake Wallenpaupack, PA) placed first in the shot put (34-10.25) while JoEllen Arons took the top spot in the 1500 meter run (4:53.90).
In relay action for Springfield, Hay, McBride, junior Katie Parente (Torrington, CT) and sophomore Nicole Reynolds (Riverside, RI) took home the top spot in the 4x100 (51.02) while McBride, Reynolds, senior Kristyn Meade (Raynham, MA) and Cartier placed first in the 4x400 team

Head Coach Jim Pennington
Jim Pennington enters his 27th season as head coach of the Springfield College women’s cross country and track and field teams in 2010-2011. Under Pennington’s direction, the Pride has recorded seven top 20 finishes at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and seven top 15 finishes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
