SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- April 17, 2008 -- The Springfield College men's golf team finished seventh of 10 teams in the Western New England College Invitational played earlier today at Veterans Golf Course.
Springfield finished with 329 strokes, some 22 strokes behind the winner, Husson College. The following are the team scores: 1) Husson 307, 2) Salem State, 3) Babson, 4) WNEC 320 (tie broken by 5th player score), 5) Williams 320, 6) UMass Dartmouth 321, 7) Springfield 329, 8) Tufts 330, 9) Franklin Pierce 332, 10) Elms 346.
Adam Duplisea of Husson and Fernando Pineres of Babson both shot a 72. Duplisea became the medalist when he birdied the first playoff hole.
For Springfield, junior Greg Levings (Averill Park, N.Y.) and junior Mike LaJoie (Enfield, Conn.) both shot an 81, tying for 18th place. Sophomore Aaron Simons (Enfield, Conn.) tied for 21st with an 82. Junior Cody Morrison (Plymouth, Mass.) tied for 36th with an 85. Junior Bryan Andersen (Enfield, Conn.) tied for 38th with an 86.
Springfield will next compete at a tourney next Tuesday (April 22) hosted by Worcester State at Sterling Golf Club in Sterling, Massachusetts.
