Brian Rose Named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America District I
Springfield, Mass. – November 8, 2006 – Brian Rose of the Springfield College football team has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America football team for District I.
Others from Springfield College who have earned the same honor this fall include senior middle blocker MaryKathryn O’Neil (Liverpool, N.Y.) of the women’s volleyball team, and senior midfielder Michelle Bongiovanni (West Springfield, Mass.) of the women’s soccer team.
Rose, a senior wide receiver from Franklin, Mass. and a graduate of Marian High School, has earned a 3.93 GPA while attending SC. Rose is currently majoring in criminal justice/psychology with a minor in history, and plans to graduate in the spring of 2007. Rose has been named to the dean’s list for SC multiple times and has aspirations of attending law school after graduation.
Aside from his academic accomplishments, Rose is also the go-to receiver on the SC football team. This season Rose leads the Pride in receiving yards (131), and receiving touchdowns (2). With one regular season game remaining, the Pride (8-1, 4-1 Empire-8) is ranked No. 14 in the d3football.com poll and No. 15 in the Don Hansen Football Gazette Poll.
SC faces Norwich University in the final game of the regular season this Saturday (Nov. 11) in Northfield, Vt. If SC can win, it will be declared the Empire-8 regular season Champions. The conference title will give SC a berth in the NCAA Division III post-season tournament.

Head Coach Mike DeLong
Michael C. “Mike” DeLong ’74 enters his 27th season as a head football coach in the fall of 2008. He enters his 25th year at Springfield College alone. For the past 24 years (1984 through 2007, inclusive), he has been the head coach at Springfield, his alma mater. Mike had also been the head coach at Maine Maritime in Castine, Maine in 1979 and 1980. Read more.
