BABSON PARK, Mass. – November 6, 2007 – The Springfield College women’s soccer team had four players named to the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference All-Conference team which was announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Nicole Hanewich and Kayla Thibeault were tabbed as a NEWMAC All-Conference First Team selections while teammates Delaney Cantrall and Lauren Peltier were all honored with second-team honors.
Hanewich, who hails from Smithfield, R.I., has recorded one of the finest offensive seasons in Springfield College history heading into the NCAA Tournament as she had recorded 35 points off 15 goals and five assists. Her 15 goals are the highest single-season goal total since Angel Schofield netted 19 in 1992. Her 35 points are the most since Kathleen Terrenzio recorded 34 in 1997.
A native of Lebanon, Conn., Thibeault continued to make an impact in her second season for the Pride. Thibeault is one of the most decorated athletes on the team as the shutdown defender earns her second-straight NEWMAC All-Conference First Team honor. She has chipped in with three goals and four assists this year.
A local product from Agawam, Mass., Peltier helped control the pace of the game for the Pride at the center midfield position. Peltier has recorded six goals and a pair of assists this season and leads the team with four game-winning goals.
A rock-solid defense that has posted 13 shutouts this season was anchored by the Santa Paula, Calif. native in Cantrall. A smart and crafty defender, Cantrall has recorded three goals this season at the center back position and has orchestrated a tremendous defensive season for Springfield.
