KINGS POINT, N.Y., September 11, 2004 -- In a battle of unbeaten teams, Kings Point improved to 5-0 after holding off Springfield College, 1-0, at Lower Roosevelt Field in a non-conference match on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore Glen Peer netted the game-winner just over 10 minutes into the second half.
The loss drops the much-improved Pride to 2-1 this season. Peer's goal was just the second tally in 281 minutes SC has allowed in the three matches so far.
The teams played a tight first half, registering four shots each. Kings Point Senior keeper James Papazis made two saves in the half on two shots on goal, while SC junior David Minkoff (Oceanside, N.Y.), stopped the lone Mariners' shot on goal.
The Blue and Gray got the only goal they would need in the game 12:30 into the second frame when Peer beat freshman keepr B.J. Sturdivant (Bear, Del.), who replaced Minkoff in net for the Pride. Senior co-captain Marcial Alzugaray assisted on the goal.
Sophomore Joe Halverson, who replaced Papazis to start the second half, made two saves in recording his first win of the season.
