SPRINGFIELD, Mass., April 10, 2004 – Springfield College sophomore Billy King (Wilmington, Mass.) won the 100- and 200-meter dashes and ran legs on both the victorious 4x100- and 4x400-meter relays to lead the Pride men’s track and field team over Coast Guard and WPI this afternoon on Blake Track.
Springfield totaled 172.5 points, followed by Coast Guard (143.5) and WPI (66).
King registered winning times of 11.25 seconds in the 100 meters, and 22.75 seconds in the 200 meters. The 4x100 team, comprised of King, senior All-American Pawel Jaroszewicz (East Longmeadow, Mass.), sophomore Chris Keyser (West Newbury, Mass.) and junior Dan Linick (Ocean, N.J.) ran to victory in 42.84 seconds, while the 4x400 squad, made up of King, Jaroszewicz, senior Art Fredericks (Wallingford, Conn.) and freshman Dave Forrette (Chicopee, Mass.) registered a 3:23.01 clocking.
Jaroscewicz was also victorious in the 400-meter dash (49.04) while junior Matt Acciaioli (Warwick, R.I.) grabbed first place in the hammer throw (166 feet) and the shot put (47 feet, 11 ¾ inches).
Other first-place finishers for the Pride included junior All-American Justin Welch (Woburn, Mass.) in the high jump (6 feet, 6 inches), junior All-American Blake Gulino (Old Saybrook, Conn.) in the long jump (22 feet, 5 inches), freshman Tetsuji Kambera (Osaka, Japan) in the 5,000-meter run (15:59.35), and senior Brian Pearsall (Fairport, N.Y.) in the 800-meter run (2:00.76).
On the women’s side, SC also took on Coast Guard and WPI in a non-scoring meet.
Sophomore Alisha Miner (Sanbornton, N.H.) came in first in the 400-meter dash (1:02.16) and ran a leg on the victorious 4x400-meter relay team (4:30.91) to lead the Pride.
Freshman Natasha Landon (Hudson Falls, N.Y.) won the pole vault (10 feet), sophomore Christina Davis (Orange, Conn.) won the javelin (126 feet, 7 inches), and junior Leah Sullivan (Northboro, Mass.) won the shot put (37 feet, 8 ¾ inches).
