SPRINGFIELD, Mass., October 14, 2006 – The Springfield College women’s volleyball team finished in fifth place at the Elmhurst Invitational in Elmhurst, Illinois, over the course of the past two days.

Friday the 13th was not kind to the Pride as SC fell twice. The Pride played the sixth-ranked team in the nation, Wisconsin-Oshkosh, to lead off the tournament. Game scores in Wisconsin-Oshkosh’s favor were 30-15, 27-30, 30-15, and 30-19. Then later that night, it was Webster University of St. Louis defeating SC, 3-0. Game scores were 30-17, 30-15, and 30-20.

Saturday the 14th was much kinder to the Pride. Earlier today, SC defeated Loras of Dubuque, Iowa, 3-0. Game scores were 30-20, 30-25, and 30-25. Finally, in the fifth-place match, it was SC defeating Concordia of Wisconsin, 3-0. Game scores were 30-23, 31-29, and 30-21.

Springfield senior middle blocker MaryKathryn O’Neil (Liverpool, N.Y.) made the All-Tournament Team. She had 11 kills in the match versus Concordia of Wisconsin. She also recorded 15 kills versus Wisconsin-Oshkosh and 11 kills versus Webster. Senior libero Leah Hettrick (Meriden, Conn.) had 19 digs in the Webster match. She had 15 more versus Loras.

Springfield returns home with an overall record of 18-6 and will next return to New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play at Mount Holyoke College on Tuesday evening, October 17th, in a 7:00 p.m. start.
