Men's Lacrosse Shuts Down No. 16 Bowdoin, 10-6

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., March. 26, 2005 – Springfield College junior midfielder Brandon Asplundh (Bryn Athyn, Pa.) tallied two goals and two assists to lead the Pride past No. 16 Bowdoin College, 10-6, this afternoon in men’s lacrosse action on Benedum Field.

Junior attackman Taylor Brown (Portsmouth, R.I.) was credited with a goal and three assists for SC (1-4), which was playing its fifth game versus a ranked opponent.

Two straight goals by junior attackman Connor Fitzgerald gave Bowdoin a 2-0 lead with 11:56 to play in the first quarter. SC would recover, answering with a 4-1 run capped by a goal by senior midfielder Adam Cost (Camillus, N.Y.) at 1:39 that put the Pride up, 4-3, after the first quarter. The Polar Bears (3-2) outscored SC, 2-1, in the second quarter as the two teams were tied, 5-5 after the first half.

Springfield would outscore Bowdoin, 5-1 in the second half, including a pair of goals by senior midfielder Derek Pedrick (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) as SC earned its first win of the 2005 season after four-straight losses by two goals or less.

Springfield sophomore goalkeeper Kyle Cloutier (South Hadley, Mass.) made eight stops for the Pride, while Bowdoin sophomore goalie Charles Legg was credited with 11 saves for the Polar Bears.

SC returns to action on Wednesday (March 30) when it travels to Williams College for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
