Sharpe, Feit, Madigan Earn All-ECAC Football Honors
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – December 18, 2006 – Junior quarterback Chris Sharpe, senior offensive guard Adam Feit, and senior inside linebacker Andy Madigan, all of Springfield College, have received All-ECAC honors for their outstanding play during the 2006 football season.
Captains all, Sharpe was named the ECAC Division III Northwest Co-Player of the Year (along with Union RB Tom Arcidiacono). Sharpe and Feit were named All-ECAC Division III Northwest First Team. Madigan was named All-ECAC Division III Northwest honorable mention.
The 5-9, 204-pound Sharpe, a native of Derry, N.H., has also received a ton of post-season honors. Just three days ago, he was named winner of the Melberger Award, symbolic of the top Division III football player in the nation. He has also been named AP Little All-America Second Team, d3football.com All-America honorable mention, winner of the NEFWA Gold Helmet Award for the Season (Division II/III Player of the Year), winner of the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston’s Joseph P. Zabilski Award (Division II/III Player of the Year), First Team d3football.com All-East Region, Empire 8 Conference Offensive Player of the Year, First Team Empire 8 All-Conference, and First Team NEFWA All-New England. Sharpe led the nation (Division III) in three offensive categories -- rushing yards per game (161.8), points per game (17.7), and TD’s (35). He broke six NCAA Division III records, and 12 Springfield College records.
The 6-2, 250-pound Feit, a native of Chicopee, Massachusetts and a graduate of Chicopee Comprehensive High School, has already been named a First Team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association, a First Team All-American and First Team All-East Region by d3football.com, and First Team All-Empire 8. On Dec. 16, Feit competed in the Aztec Bowl at Estadio Victoria in Aguascalientes, Mexico. Feit and his D-3 USA teammates defeated Mexico, 28-7.
The 5-11, 195-pound Madigan from New Britain, Connecticut was SC’s second-leading tackler with 77. He also had two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. Madigan was named First Team All-Empire 8.

Head Coach Mike DeLong
Michael C. “Mike” DeLong ’74 enters his 27th season as a head football coach in the fall of 2008. He enters his 25th year at Springfield College alone. For the past 24 years (1984 through 2007, inclusive), he has been the head coach at Springfield, his alma mater. Mike had also been the head coach at Maine Maritime in Castine, Maine in 1979 and 1980. Read more.
