Wheaton Downs Women's Tennis, 9-0

NORTON, Mass. - September 15, 2007 The Springfield College women's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision toWheaton College on Saturday afternoon.

Extending its unbeaten streak to 10 matches dating back to the spring of 2007, Wheaton saw its league record improve to 2-0. The Pride is now 0-3 and 0-2 in NEWMAC play.

Senior captain Maya Milic-Strkalj and sophomore Katherine Knies spearheaded the doubles sweep for Wheaton with an 8-1 decision in the second spot.

Freshmen Sarah Geocaris and Catherine Teague posted an 8-3 final in the top doubles slot to remain undefeated this fall, while classmates Chelsea Cordes and Ellen Van Faasen won 8-4 in the third position.

In singles play, Geocaris recorded a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at No. 2, while Milic-Strkalj surrendered just two games at five, and Van Faasen won 6-1, 6-2 in the fourth slot. Teague and Cordes captured 6-2, 6-2 victories in the first and sixth positions, respectively, while Knies defeated sophomore Rachel Kushma (London, England/ACS Hillingdon International School) 7-5, 6-0 at number three.

The Pride return to action when it faces NEWMAC-rival Clark on the road on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
