Petri Honored As NEWMAC Player of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., November 7, 2005 - Springfield College sophomore goalkeeper Amanda Petri (East Granby, Conn.) has been named this week's New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Week in women's soccer.

Petri, a graduate of Granby Memorial High School, made a total of 13 saves in the semifinals and finals of the 2005 NEWMAC Women's Soccer Tournament. She stopped four shots on goal against Clark to record the shutout win in the semifinals, and saved nine shots on goal against Wheaton in a 1-1 tie in the championship match. In the penaly kicks of the championships match, Petri was solid, stopping two of the Lyons' five penalty kick attempts as SC has advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament. It mark the Pride's first-ever NEWMAC Tournament Championship title.

SC is unbeaten in its last eleven contests, as the Pride will take on Castleton State College at home in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament, in a 7:00 p.m. match on Wednesday evening, November 9.
