KISSIMMEE, Fla. – March 11, 2007 – Freshman Bryn Worrilow went 6-for-9 at the plate in leading the Springfield College softball team to a split Sunday in her team’s 2007 season openers in Kissimmee, Florida.

In game #1, SC lost to Simpson College of Indianola, Iowa, 10-6. But in game #2, the Pride came back to defeat Suffolk University, 14-5. Both were seven-inning games.

A first-year right fielder for SC, Worrilow went 2-for-4 in the first game. She also scored two runs, and knocked in two. In the second contest, Worrilow went 4-for-5, with three runs scored, while knocking in five.

Hitting was not a problem for the Pride. SC had 12 hits in the first game, 14 in the second. SC is now hitting .377 after the first two games this season.

Also having a good day was sophomore infielder Shanda Kogut (Preston, Conn.) who went 3-for-6, with three runs scored and two stolen bases. Sophomore center fielder Angela Atkins (East Haddam, Conn.) went 4-for-9, with one RBI and one double. Sophomore outfielder Amanda Lyons (Eastchester, N.Y.) went 2-for-5, scoring two runs. And junior catcher Lauren D’Arrigo (Lexington, Mass.) also went 2-for-5 with one run scored, one RBI, and one double.

Junior righthander Stephanie Blackman (Stamford, Conn.) went the distance in game #1, picking up the loss. Sophomore lefthander Samantha Rhodes (Mendon, Mass.) hurled seven innings in the nightcap to pick up the win, allowing just two earned runs, while striking out five.

On Monday, SC will continue its 10-game southern swing by playing Dennison and Penn State-Behrend.
