Women's Volleyball Finishes Third At Johnson & Wales

PROVIDENCE, R.I., September 10, 2005 - Springfield College senior opposite Ashley Reves (Orchard Park, N.Y.) earned All-Tournament Team honors as the Pride finished third in this weekend's (Sept. 9-10) Johnson and Wales Invitational. SC went 3-1 overall on the weekend, downing Johnson & Wales in the third-place match, 3-0, on Saturday evening.
To start the weekend, on Friday evening, SC downed Suffolk University and Eastern Nazarene, each by 3-0 scores. In its first match on Saturday, the Pride lost a close, 3-2 match with Wesleyan. SC then swept Johnson & Wales in the consolation match to finish third.
In SC's four matches , Reves totaled an impressive 49 kills and a 3.50 kills-per-game average. Reves totaled 14 kills in the third-place match, and 13 each against Eastern Nazarene and Wesleyan.
Junior libero Leah Hettrick (Meriden, Conn.) had a very solid weekend for the Pride, totaling 72 digs in the four matches, a 5.14 dig/game average. Senior setter Alesia Vaccari (Winsted, Conn.) also continued to rack up the assists with 138 total for an average of 9.86/game.
SC now boasts a 7-1 overall record on the '05 campaign and will next host Mount Holyoke College in its opening New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest on Tuesday night, September 13, in a 7:00 p.m. start.

Head Coach Joel Dearing
Joel Dearing will enter his 20th season as head women's volleyball coach at his alma mater in the fall of 2008. Dearing is regarded nationally as one of the sport’s best coaches and he has the resume to prove it. Dearing ranks in the top-10 in Division III history with a 638-293 (.685) overall mark in 27 seasons as a women’s volleyball coach.
