Women's Soccer Finishes Regular Season Dropping WPI, 4-0

Senior forward Amanda Nealon scored her team-best seventh goal of the season on "Senior Day", helping lift SC to its 11th overall win.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., October 26, 2005 – Springfield College senior Amanda Nealon (Falmouth, Mass.) scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season, en route to the Pride’s 4-0 victory over the Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), this afternoon (Oct. 26) in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action.

Nealon, along with fellow classmates Courtney Goetz (Flemington, N.J.), Megan Perry (Chatham, N.Y.), Elizabeth Macrum (Acton, Maine), Nora Clark (Springfield, Mass.) and Sarah Killeen (Meriden, Conn.), were honored on “Senior Day” before the contest, playing in their last regular season match at Springfield College.

SC junior midfielder Cara Reilly (Lenoxdale, Mass.) scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 23rd minute of play off a feed from Annemarie Goodwin (Springfield, Mass.). Juniors Jenn McBride (Mechanicville, N.Y.) and Jessica Denehy (Whately, Mass.) added a goal apiece for the Pride.

Pride sophomore goalkeeper Amanda Petri (E. Granby, Conn.) improved her overall record to 9-2-1, saving the Engineers' lone shot on goal.

SC finishes its NEWMAC regular season with a 8-1 record (11-4-2 overall), as the Pride ran off eight-straight wins after losing its conference opener to Wheaton back on September 24. SC will host a first round NEWMAC Tournament match this Saturday, October 29, with the time and opponenet to be announced later.
