SPRINGFIELD, Mass., April 5, 2004 – Springfield College All-American Marisa Clapp has been awarded a $7,500 post-graduate scholarship from the NCAA.
Clapp was one of 29 female fall sport student-athletes across Divisions I, II and III to earn the post-graduate scholarship, and one of just 10 winners in Division III.
Clapp, a five-time All-American in track & field and cross country who hails from Charlton, Mass., is one of only five student-athletes in Springfield College history to earn First Team Academic All-America honors. She was a second-team Verizon Academic All-American in 2002.
In cross country, Clapp earned three consecutive New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Runner-of-the-Year honors (2001, ’02 and ’03). She is a two-time All-American in the sport, finishing 18th at the 2002 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships and 12th at the 2001 nationals.
As a member of the track & field team, Clapp placed seventh in the 1,500-meter event (4:32.98) at the 2003 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships to earn her third career All-America title in the sport. Earlier in the season, Clapp was named the NEWMAC Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Year after winning the 800, 1,500, and 5,000-meter events at the conference outdoor track & field championships.
Clapp carried a 3.95 grade point average (g.p.a.) as a sports management major.
