Women's Track and Field Competes at Army Open

WEST POINT, N.Y., January 27, 2007 - Springfield College junior quad-captain Alyssa Brigham (Penacook, N.H.) finished first in the one-mile run with a time 5:25.62 as the Pride competed in the non-scoring Army Open at Gills Field House this afternoon in West Point, N.Y.

Finishing right behind Brigham in the one-mile run was senior Alix Slayton (Ashburnham, Mass.), with a second-place time of 5:39.47. Slayton also put up a fifth-place performance in the 1,000-meter run, finishing in a time of 3:19.15.

Other solid SC performances in the track events came from sophomore Katie Parente (Torrington, Conn.), who finished second in the 400-meter dash (1:02.52) and eighth in the 200-meter dash (27.95), freshman Chelsea Ellwood (San Diego, Calif.), who placed fifth in the one-mile run (5:53.42), freshman Allison Vander Werff (Golden's Bridge, N.Y.), with a fifth-place finish in the 800-meter race (2:34.54), and senior Tracey Hayes (Seekonk, Mass.), with a sixth-place finish in the same event (2:35.16).

In the field events, freshman Nikki Hay (Norwalk, Conn.) had another solid meet, finishing second in the triple jump (10.81 meters) and fourth in the long jump (4.98 meters). Sophomore Kelsey Bishop (Warwick, R.I.) placed third in the weight throw with a toss of 14.80 meters.

In the high jump event, junior Sarah Rioux (Turner, Me.), and sophomores Lara Dalidowitz (Southington, Conn.) and Kayla Robertson (Peace Dale, R.I.) all finished with final leaps of 1.52 meters. In the final standings, Rioux finished third, and Dalidowitz and Robertson tied for fourth place.

The Pride will next travel to Medford, Mass., to compete in the Tufts University Invitational on Saturday afternoon, February 3rd.
