

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., October 18, 2005 - Springfield College senior Meghan Bascetta (Granby, Conn.) celebrated senior night by scoring twice as the No. 8 Pride downed Smith College, 6-0, in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) field hockey action on this evening (Oct. 18) at Benedum field.
Seniors Sarah Brooker (Auburn, Maine) and Jaclyn Galligan (Hopedale, Mass.) each contributed with a goal in their final regular season home games at SC’s Benedum Field. For Brooker, it was the co-captain's team-leading 14th score of the season.
Freshman forward Allie Eisele (Walton, N.Y.) converted junior forward Christine Gibbons’ (Eden, N.Y.) pass to tally her first career collegiate goal, making the final score 6-0.
Sophomore forward Eileen Jenkins (Gorham, Maine) had a solid night for the Pride, scoring her third goal of the season while assisting on one of Bacetta's scores.
Senior goalie Megan Maguire recorded 14 saves for the Pioneers (6-8, 1-5 NEWMAC).
SC improves to 15-2 overall on the season and 5-1 in conference play. The Pride have won four-straight and captured 12 of its past 13 contests. SC returns to action on Saturday afternoon, October 22, as it travels to MIT for a NEWMAC game at 1:00 p.m.

After only four years as head coach of the Pride, Melissa Rogers, has continued the SC tradition of winning on the field hockey turf, posting an impressive 78-17 record, good for a winning percentage of .821 at the helm of her alma mater. Read more.
