Men's Gymnastics Fifth At USAG Championships

DENTON, Texas, April 19, 2003 - Springfield College freshman Ted Brown (Westfield, N.J.) placed second on the pommel horse with a score of 9.100 and earned All-America honors to lead the Pride to a fifth-place finish at the 2003 USA Gymnastics Collegiate Championships at the Kitty Magee Arena on the campus of Texas Woman's University.

The Pride, which scored 201.250, also placed fifth at the 2002 USA Gymnastics Championships held in Blake Arena. William & Mary (210.225) won the 2003 team championship, followed by Army (209.600), Air Force (203.800) and Navy (203.175).

SC junior Mike Smith (Salt Lake City, Utah), who placed sixth on the floor exercise (8.500), was one of two other SC gymnasts be named an All American. Sophomore James Nixon (Somerset, N.J.) placed fifth in the still rings (9.050) and also garnered All-America accolades.

Smith also placed eighth in the parallel bars (7.400). Sophomore Robert Sander (Colombia, Mont.) finished eighth in the horizontal bars (7.750), and sophomore Nelson Jimenez (Salem, N.H.) was eighth on the vault with (8.850).
