Springfield, Mass. – April 29th 2008 – The Springfield Colelge men's tennis team fell one game short to Babson 5-4 in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference semi-finals this past weekend at the Coast Guard Academy.
Springfield College won two out of the five single matches as sophomore Trevor Romanzi (Bay Shore, N.Y.) won his match 6-4, 6-3, and junior Bobby Schlink (Quaker Hill, Conn.) defeated his opponent 2-6, 6-3, and 6-3.
Springfield took two of three double matches from Babson. Romanzi and his partner Rahul Bala (Enfield, Conn.) grabbed an 8-5 victory. Schlink and his teammate Tim Tunis (Sudbury, Mass.) won their match 8-6.
The top doubles match saw Springfield’s senior Joe Lisi (Southbridge, Mass.) and junior Andrew Constant (Kingston, N.Y.) fall to Babson’s pair of Alex Kamergorodsky, and Brain Lafayette, 8-5.
The Pride and the Beavers were even at four matches a piece headed into the final singles match which saw Tim Tunis face off with Babson’s Edwin Lee. Lee won a hard fought match 7-5, 1-6, and 6-4 to propel the Beaver’s to a 5-4 semi-final victory.
Springfield College finished the 2007-2008 season with an overall record of 7-6.
