No. 2 Men's Volleyball Shuts Down Harvard, 3-1

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (February 5, 2008) – Behind 19.5 blocks in a four-game match, the Springfield College men’s volleyball team shut down conference-foe Harvard, 3-1, on Tuesday evening.

After dropping the opening game 30-16, the Pride rallied to take the next three games, 30-21, 30-21, 30-25.

The Pride, who dropped this week to No. 2 in the latest AVCA/CSTV Coaches Poll, move to 6-1, 2-0 in EIVA Hay play while the Crimson fall for the first time in the 2008 campaign, dropping to 3-1, 2-1.

AJ Nally led the way for the Pride with 14 kills and seven block assists while Andy Sipe posted 10 blocks off three solo and seven assisted stuffs. Ryan Fredrickson added 10 kills and four blocks while Brandon Waas added seven digs in the win for SC. Springfield held Harvard to a paltry -.017 hitting percentage in the match.

Brian Rapp registered a match-best 20 digs while teammate Brady Weissbourd notched a match-high 16 kills for the host Crimson.

Springfield returns to action on Friday afternoon when it participates in a key tournament at Nazareth College in Rochester, N.Y. The Pride will square off with several teams ranked in the top-10 in the country, opening with No. 7 Carthage at 4:00 pm.
