SPRINGFIELD, Mass., April 26, 2006 – Springfield College freshman attacker Jake Beebe (Sudbury, Mass.) scored a career-high four goals to go along with one assist for five total points of offense as the Pride used a 7-0 second-half run to surge past the visiting Lasell College Lasers, 17-11, in Pilgrim Lacrosse League action this evening at Benedum Field.
SC has now won five consecutive games and eight of its past nine contests, improving to 10-4 overall on the season and 6-1 in the Pilgrim League. Lasell falls to 9-5 on the season and 3-4 in Pilgrim League play. Pride senior All-American Taylor Brown (Portsmouth, R.I.) also chipped in with four goals and two assists, as the attacker now has a team-leading 45 points on the year.
After SC opened the scoring with the game’s first three goals, the Lasers settled down and reeled off a 6-1 run to take a 6-4 advantage into the break. The two teams then traded goals for the majority of the third quarter, as Lasell enjoyed a 9-7 lead with just 3:53 remaining in the third.
From that point on it was all Pride, as SC scored seven-straight goals and outscored the Lasers by a 10-2 margin in the final 16 minutes of action to take the 17-11 victory. Senior midfielder Kevin Lynch (Milton, Mass.) played well with two goals and nine ground balls, going 25-32 on face-offs for the game. Freshman midfielder Chris Jez (Somers, Conn.) added two scores and senior midfielder Brandon Asplundh (Bryn Athyn, Pa.) contributed with a pair of assists.
Senior attacker Kyle Minaker led Lasell with four goals and one assist, as freshman midfielder Michael Maggio also registered four scores for the Lasers.
The Pride will next travel to Mass. Maritime for its regular-season finale on Saturday afternoon, April 29th, in a 1:00 p.m. Pilgrim Lacrosse League start.
