

Springfield vs. Worcester State Box Score
b>LEWISTON, Maine. - September 28, 2007 The Springfield College women's volleyball team swept a pair of matches in the opening day of the Bates Invitational on Friday evening.
With the two victories, the Pride currently stands at 12-5 on the season.
In its opening match, the Pride faced off against Colby for the second time in six days after previously topping them in the MIT Invitational in five games. Springfield once again defeated Colby, this time in three games by the scores of 30-27, 33-31, 30-21. The difference in the match was the breakout play of freshman middle Sarah Lang-Rodean (Mansfield Center, Conn.), who hammered out a career-high 20 kills. Heidi Yohe (Deer Park, Wash.) paced the Pride's defensive effort with 15 digs.
In its second match of the evening, the Pride cruised past Worcester State in three games, 30-20, 30-22, 30-17. Yohe registered 14 kills in the match while Lang-Rodean notched 11 kills. Aylene Ilkson (Baldwin, N.Y.) added 10 kills and 11 digs in the match as well.
Springfield takes on Rivier and Eastern Connecticut on Saturday to conclude the Invitational.
Joel Dearing will enter his 21st season as head women's volleyball coach at his alma mater in the fall of 2009. Dearing is regarded nationally as one of the sport’s best coaches and he has the resume to prove it. Dearing ranks in the top-10 in Division III history with a 670-298 (.692) overall mark in 28 seasons as a women’s volleyball coach.
